Top 3 Reasons to Treat Warts

A surprisingly small percentage of those infected by warts end up seeking treatment.  Here’s why the “wait and see” approach may not be the best course of action:

  • 1. Viral Transmission and Recurrence

The HPV Virus is spread via contact. All warts can be “mother” warts, meaning warts on the foot can very easily become warts on the hand. Furthermore, HPV can remain dormant in your body. Even if your warts go away temporarily, they are likely to resurface in the future unless the virus is properly treated.

  • 2. Pain and Mobility

If left untreated, warts and specifically plantar warts can cause significant pain and mobility problems.  In the case of plantar warts, the roots of the wart can extend deep into the foot causing irritation and pain with pressure. For this reason, early treatment is recommended before the infection becomes more severe or has spread to other areas of the body.

  • 3. Cosmetic Concerns

Depending on location, warts can be very unsightly and are usually quite embarrassing.  It is common for those suffering from warts to avoid exposure and to cease activities that might display their infection.
